When Haley Queens accidentally sets fire to her therapist’s office, she’s finally found an excuse to run away. Accompanied by her dour friend Samael and a precocious kid who knows too much, Haley stumbles into a world of stars that is dead set on naming Sam as a devil. Haley will need the help of spunky, fragile Sadie Turner to decipher Sam’s world— and to decipher herself.

Chimera tackles certain aspects of improper psychiatric care. It should not be taken as an attack on well-practicing professionals or be used by patients to engage in harmful behavior. Content warning includes psychiatric abuse, child abuse, grief, mental illness, and body horror, as well as allusions to sexual assault, drug use, self-harm, eating disorders, and incest. None of these topics are represented with the intention to aestheticize their suffering.

Despite the weight of these topics, the author considers the novel a dark contemporary fantasy, with both romance and horror elements.
